Maruti Suzuki Swift 2024: A Fresh Update on the Beloved Hatchback
Maruti Suzuki has launched the highly anticipated next generation of the Swift, bringing fresh updates and enhancements to one of India’s most beloved hatchbacks. Let’s dive into what makes the 2024 Swift stand out, from design changes to performance tweaks and pricing.
Fresh Design Updates
The new Maruti Suzuki Swift sports a revamped front grille and sleek headlamps, giving it a modern look. While the overall design has been updated, the side and rear profiles maintain the classic Swift aesthetic. This balance of new and familiar elements ensures that Swift retains its recognizable charm.
Inside, the Swift now features the same infotainment system and AC unit as the new Baleno, offering a more connected and comfortable driving experience. A new body line seamlessly connects the bonnet, adding a touch of elegance to the car’s profile. Engine and Performance
Under the hood, the 2024 Swift is equipped with an all-new 1.2-liter 3-cylinder Z series engine, delivering 80 BHP and 111.7 NM of torque. This represents a slight decrease of 9 BHP and 2 NM compared to its predecessor. Despite these changes, the new engine is one of the most refined 3-cylinder options available, although you might notice some vibrations during start-up and while picking it up with the clutch only.
However, the engine feels a bit harsh beyond 3000 RPM, and the slight reduction in performance means the car doesn’t quite glide past 100 kmph as effortlessly as before.
Impressive Mileage
Maruti Suzuki is renowned for producing cars with exceptional fuel efficiency, and the new Swift is no exception. The 2024 model boasts an impressive mileage of 24.8 kmpl to 25.75 kmpl, making it more economical than ever.
Safety
Safety has always been a concern with Suzuki cars, but the new Swift makes strides in this area. It has scored 4 stars in the Japan NCAP, thanks to its improved build quality and the inclusion of active safety features such as ADAS (though will not be available in India). Indian buyers will benefit from 6 airbags as standard and hill hold assist in the top variants. Despite a reduction in cylinder count, the Swift has gained 20 kgs, indicating a stronger structure and enhanced safety.Pricing and Value
With a host of new standard safety features, the 2024 Swift sees a price increase of approximately Rs. 50,000. The new pricing starts at Rs. 6.49 Lakh and goes up to Rs. 9.65 Lakh ex-showroom, positioning it competitively against the Baleno, Altroz, and Tiago, etc.
Final Thoughts
The Maruti Suzuki Swift has always been celebrated for its affordability and fun driving experience. However, with the current price hike and the introduction of a 3-cylinder engine, it might be worthwhile to consider the new-age Baleno. For an additional Rs. 30,000, the Baleno offers a more refined and smooth 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine. What are your thoughts on the new Swift? Share your opinions in the comments below!
