The scooter was launched in 1972 when there was the era of 2 stroke engines. But now Bajaj is back with CHETAK , but this time its all electric, yes the new CHETAK is fully electric.

Before knowing about the new CHETAK lets check the history of the old one.

BAJAJ CHETAK ( 1972- 2005)

Bajaj CHETAK was one of the most famous and economical vehicle among the population of India. The scooter was launched way back in 1972 with a 150cc 2 stroke engine. This scooter engine produces 7.5 BHP @ 5500 rpm and 10.8 Nm @ 3500 rpm. The scooter has a 4 speed gear box which was controlled from the handlebar.

In 2002 the scooter was relaunched with a 4 stroke engine but all the other components remained same . the top speed of the scooter was 90 kmph. In 2005 due to dropping sales and the success of motorcycles, the scooter was discontinued in 2005.

From than, Bajaj never came back in the scooter segment , while other companies such as Hero motorcorp, TVS, and Honda gained and captured market of the gear less motorscooters.

After so long Bajaj is back in reprising the CHETAK scooter in a modern avatar. The new CHETAK is having retro styling with smooth and sleek styling with all the modern tech an EV (Electric Vehicle ) should have. The scooter will be having circular LED headlamp with DRLs and circular retro styled fully digital instrumental console. As claimed by Bajaj that the scooter will always be connected with your smart phone to report you about every thing such as protection from theft , receiving notifications in case of an accident or unauthorized access, you can also set music and read helpful riding tips from your connected device.
