Yamaha has launched the MT-15 which is a smaller version of the Yamaha MT-09 which is a 847cc naked street bike. The MT-15  is launched with a 155cc single cylinder,4 stroke,4 valve SOHC engine. This engine is liquid cooled and produces a power output of 19.3 PS at 10,000 rpm and 14.3 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm. The bike gets equipped with some premium features such as a fully digital instrumental console, slipper clutch, single channel ABS as the norms in India, along with Yamaha's own VVA (variable valves actuation) technology.

Yes, you guessed it correct it's the Yamaha R15 v3 which gives a tough competition under a single brand. So, let's take a look and compair between both of these bikes

Yamaha MT-15 Vs Yamaha R15 v3

Above you can see the basic comparison of both these bikes on some of the key features / specifications. Both the bikes uses the same engine paired with the same 6- speed gearbox. Both these bikes have the same liquid cooling and slipper clutch to. Except that the Yamaha R15 v3 has an option of dual channel ABS where the Yamaha MT-15 has just a option of single channel ABS, I think that soon Yamaha would bring the dual channel ABS in MT-15 to. If we talk about the ergonomics it's very surprising that Yamaha R15 v3 being a full faired sports bike as about 25 mm greater ground clearance than the Yamaha MT-15 which is a naked sports bike. The Yamaha MT-15 is 6 kilo grammes lighter than the Yamaha R15 v3. Both these bikes get similar suspension setup which is telescopic suspension at front and monoshok swing arm at rear.
The Yamaha R15 v3 stands well against the Yamaha MT-15 but there is one more in brand competition. It's the Yamaha FZ S FI v3, the Yamaha FZ S FI v3  also stand in the naked sports department and is a 150cc motorcycles coming at just Rs 97,680 (ex-showroom Delhi). So let's see a comparison between these two also

Yamaha MT-15 Vs Yamaha FZ S FI v3

Above you can see the comparison on some basic specifications and features. Bugatti bike has lot of difference, let's start with the engine. As we can see in the comparison above the Yamaha FZ S FI uses a single cylinder 4 stroke 2 valve SOHC engine, where the Yamaha MT-15 uses of 4 valve engine, show the MT-15 is more powerful than the FZ S FI. Similarly the FZS FI uses of 5 speed gearbox where the MT-15 uses a 6 speed gearbox. Talking about the ergonomics both the bikes are almost similar. Yes Yamaha FZS fi is less powerful but is coming at almost Rs. 40,000 cheaper than the MT-15.

Competitions

The all new Yamaha MT-15 has a lot of competitions in the market, as we have seen there are three in brand competitions which are Yamaha R1 5 V3, Yamaha FZS fi, Yamaha FZ 25. Talking about other competitions KTM Duke 125 is one of the big competition of it. Other competitions are KTM Duke 200, Apache RTR 200 4v, Bajaj Pulsar NS 200.

Conclusion

The final question arises should you buy the Yamaha MT 15 at a price point of 1.36 lakhs? There are multiple answers for this question such as, the purpose of the bike which you want, do you want to have the R15 V3 in a naked avatar  then the MT-15 is this solution. My suggestion is that think of the options and go for test rides of the bikes. Believe me test rides are the key to choose the bike.
