Bajaj Dominar 250
Bajaj has finally announced about the launch of the Bajaj Dominar 250. Although several pictures and videos were leaked or may I say captured by people while the Dominar 250 was road tested before any official announcement or launch from Bajaj. Bajaj Dominar 400 is not doing so well in the Indian market in sales and as far as I think, that's the reason for the launch of the Dominar 250. Both the bikes share the same design and features, there are just minor changes here and there. The most interesting thing would be the performance of the Dominar 250 in sales as there are other motorcycles such as KTM Duke 250, Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 and Husqvarna Vitpilen 250, which are some how connected the Bajaj. The Dominar 250 is priced at Rs 1.60 lakhs ex- showroom delhi which is a competitive price range.
Bajaj Dominar 250 Design elements
The new Bajaj Dominar 250 gets same design and features exactly similar to it's bigger sibling Dominar 400. The D250 gets same headlamp and taillamps , same fuel tank, same looks borrowed from the Dominar 400. There are minor changes such as the D250 badging on the rear coul as well as lesser colour schemes. The Dominar 250 will just get two colour options which are Canyon Red and Vine Black. Also the Dominar 250 will get blacked out alloys which on D400 are golden in colour. The other visual changes which can be spotted is the thinner rear wheel which stands out with Dominar character.
Engine Specs
The new Dominar 250 gets a single cylinder four stroke DOHC 4 valve, Liquid cooled twin spark Fi 248.77cc engine. This engine produces maximum power of 27 PS @ 8500 RPM and maximum torque of 23.5 Nm @ 6500 RPM. The motorcycle gets a 6- speed transmission with slipper clutch. This engine will help to cover more distance in a full tank compared to Dominar 400 .
Dimensions and Others
The Dimensions are also same as the Dominar 400 which are :-
- Length - 2156 mm
- Width - 836 mm
- Height - 1112 mm
- Kerb Weight - 180 Kg
- Fuel Tank Capacity - 13 L
- Ground Clearance - 157 mm
- Wheelbase - 2035 mm
So, whats interesting here is the weight , there is just a difference of 4 kgs between Dominar 400 and 250. The Dominar 250 is just 4 kg lighter than the Dominar 400. Each and every thing is similar to Domianar 400 may it be wheelbase, ground clearance or the fuel tank capacity.
Talking about differences from the Dominar 400 are , the tyre size is significantly smaller as well as the chain cover is also different. The other major change is the swing arm which is a box type as well as gets thinner USD suspensions.
The Dominar 250 gets dual channel ABS with 300 mm disc at front and 230 mm disc at rear while the tyre sizes are 100/80- 17 inch at front and 130/70- 17 inch tubeless tyres.
Conclusion
The Bajaj Dominar 250 uses the same frame as the 400 does and also gets the same design , So it would be hard to distinguish between both the bikes in rear road conditions. The interesting thing would be how the bike performs in it's segment , will it defeat the segment conquerors in sales as well as in performance?
As the Dominar 400 BS6 is anticipated to be launched with a price tag of 2 lakh rupees, would people go for the smaller Dominar 250 with a difference of approx 40,000 rupees.
By the way the Bajaj dealerships are taking bookings for the Dominar 250 and the delivery will also start soon.
